Train

Hong Kong is well-connected by a comprehensive train network by MTR [route map] and KCR.  You can use the Octopus Card (tap on reader at entry and exit points) or purchase a single-journey ticket at the automatic machines located in the stations. The MTR is a convenient way of moving around Hong Kong's places of attractions, town centers and major destinations. The KCR provides commuter train service for urban areas through satellite towns and rural areas, and in addition provides a transport link to Mainland China.

Bus

Double-decker and single-level buses provide frequent and reliable means of transportation to go to destinations not supported by the train network. Final destinations are displayed on an LED board in front of the bus. Exact change is required. For octopus card users, tap the card on the reader only once upon boarding. The main bus companies in Hong Kong are listed below, where you can search for information on the supported routes:

Minibus

Minibuses are small and normally yellow buses that can carry about 16 people. Mini-bus is normally faster but is more suited for people who are more familiar with Hong Kong.

Taxi

Taxis are abundant and relatively cheap in Hong Kong especially when traveling in groups. Many drivers speak Mandarin and some English, but it is useful to have your destination written in Chinese characters.
